Human Waste - Interview in ATTACK FANZINE

1. OK, tell us some info about Human Waste.

Human Waste began to play around ´99, but with a different line-up than
today. It wasn’t all that serious back then. The line-up we have today
basically started to play at the end of 2000, but some of us came along
under the spring the following year. So far we have released four 7” and
one discography-CD (with all the songs from the 7 inches + unreleased
material). We’ve also participated on a comp-CD called “The Punishment is
here” and we have some releases on the way. A live split-cassette with
Blockhead from France, also a new 7” which we are going to record any day
now + some songs on compilations (nothing is certain yet).

2. You’re a relatively young band in comparison to some. But you’ve
managed to get 4 7”s out there and soon one title richer with your
discography CD. Does the band ever rest?

We’ve been around since ´99 like we mentioned above, so you can say that
the band is only 3 years old. :) Well, the band is very lazy so we can’t
say that we agree with you… Things work slow for us and it takes a while
before we manage to rehearse enough to make another record. Everyone is
busy with work, other bands and things like that but we try to get
together and rehearse at least once a week. However, it feels like that’s
not enough if you’re trying to get somewhere. We don’t even have a
rehearsal-room of our own, which sort of complicates things…

3. That CD is coming out on Hardcore Holocaust in USA. How did you come in
contact with them? How’s the deal with them and when will it come?
Anything coming with unreleased stuff alone anytime soon?

I think it started when we were checking internet and looking for people
to trade records with. He seemed to like our first record and we’ve
continued to trade more records and kept contact through e-mail with each
other. The discography was supposed to be a CDR-record released by
ourselves, but when he showed interest in releasing it we thought it
could be cool. Yeah, besides from all four of the 7” will be on it, there
will be some unreleased tracks + live bonus tracks.

4. You’ve been compared with Skitsystem a lot on earlier (even by me).
With your name, some record and songtitles it’s not so hard to
understand. Or don’t you agree at all with that?

There’s no point in denying the fact that Skitsystem is a great band who
make great music/lyrics, and we were very influenced by them when we first
got together. In present time, we’re influenced by a lot of bands, but we
don’t have any particularly band in mind when we put a new song together,
even though it may sound like that sometimes. It’s hard to create
something completely new, everybody else is stealing from each other, so
why shouldn’t we?

5. Reading your lyrics soon gives an idea that you’re not too happy about
everyday life as it is today. Comments?

Well, that’s correct. It feels like you’re choking when you have to fit in
the mold and live your life after the same routines day in and day out.
There are a lot of other things you can do/prior in life than just eat,
work and sleep. However, we’re a bunch of people who have gone through a
lot of shit like alcohol/social problems and deep depressions so it’s
hard to find the strength to live the way you’re expected to live in this
society.

6. On the “I skuggan av erat Sverige” 7” you have a hip-hop tune. Is this
something you do besides HW or did you get help from outside? If so, from
who? What made you do that song?

I think all zines who interviewed us so far has asked us question about
that song. Skitsylen also got a hiphop band besides HW. He took help from
his “hiphop-pals” to write and record this song. There’s also a
punkversion, which can be found on “Lagar är till för att brytas” in case
you haven’t noticed. By the way, it’s based on a true story. We hate that
there has to be limits between different underground music styles like
these. Some ignorant people think it’s wrong to mix punk and hiphop and
that’s partly why we did this is song. It’s a pure provocation against
those assholes!

7. I can find more traces than that song that you’re indicating that you
have some connection to the hiphop and/or graffiti culture. Is this
correct?

Some of us like the hiphop/graffiti movement, but no one except for
Skitsylen is practicing it.
Keep your eyes open for whole-cars around Sweden. Ösd Locals-crew for
motherfuckin’ life!

8. New Noise Rec has been a part of all four releases. No future and
Contempt three. Are these labels somehow connected with the band?

New Noise Records is runned by Skitsylen, Contempt Records by Zodiakk and
No Future Records by a friend of ours (who by the way only been a part of
releasing two of our records). It feels like you just can’t stand and
wait for something to happen so we have released our records by ourselves
so far.

9. Are you as individuals involved in any kind of political activities? If
so what? Do you think taking the streets demonstrating can really make a
change just by itself or is it meant to other people eyes? Making them
curios on why all these angry people are out there and hopefully get more
educated about the issues, and then get activated themselves?

That depends what you mean with political. Perhaps we’re not as political
as p.c.-activists, but we’re trying to do some things, like playing at
benefit-gigs and attend at some demonstrations. We think it’s great that
we have the ability to get out on the streets to demonstrate and maybe
get “ordinary people” to open their eyes and unite in the struggle
against oppression, racism and other injustices. So, to make the answer
short; yeah we think it’s great that there are some angry people out
there who refuse to stand aside and just watch as society falls apart.

10. Well, that’s it from me. Hopefully this will let people know you a bit
and get interested in your records. Take over and finish!
